The Telly Nelly Heads to the North Pole

Hey there you!

Just wanted to let you know that The Telly Nelly blog will be on hiatus from now until Friday, December 29th as The Telly Nelly promised Santa that he'd go and help prep everything for the big day.

Yeah...like I don't have *enough* to do myself! But seriously, the guy is *way* overweight and Mrs. Claus just isn't pulling her weight like she used to.

So it's up to me to save the day naturally. Sigh! I hope your kids appreciate my sacrifice!

But if you're looking for some good TV in the meantime, you can visit my weekly column at In Newsweekly.com - just look for it in the media reviews section. It's up every Thursday and should give you the boost you need to get through the chaos of Christmas.

Merry Merry, my moppets of mistletoe - see you soon!

The Telly Nelly's LGBT TV Picks for Friday, December 15

Friday the 15th already? Soooooooooooooo much to do...the elves have been lazy this year!

For once I'm glad there's no 'must see' TV on tonight...perhaps I can catch up on my Christmas crafting. (And no, I'm not kidding. The Telly Nelly gives from the heart!)

What's on The Telly Tonight?

"Year Without a Santa Claus"Mrsclaus_rankinbass

7:00 p.m. ET - ABC

Yes, I write about most of the Rankin-Bass holiday specials as they're quite gay and delicious by nature. (Unlike that hellaciously awful live-action "Year Without a Santa Claus" on ABC earlier this week, which was just terribly, terribly...terrible.) They're total classics and I think years from now Swedish scientists will discover these specials are what's been making kids gay for years. (Forget genetics, stop-motion animation makes you a fag!) If you watched the live-action version, I'm sorry. Purge the bad memories from your mind with this original version, which actually makes sense as the writing was far superior back in the 70's when people cared about things like continuity and framing. Also, this version contains the classic "I'll Have a Blue Christmas Without You" song so it's a definite must see for you and your kin. Jingle and Jangle probably get it on when Ms. Claus isn't watching...can't you sense the chemistry? Or is that just peppermint?South_of_nowhere_spencerashley

"South of Nowhere"

8:30 p.m. ET - The N

Tonight our favorite lesbians Spencer and Ashley discover its not easy being the perfect couple, especially when one of the girls seems not-so-keen on coming out as a dynamic duo to the world at large. Will a little distrust ruin this blossoming relationship? Watch and see my dears…rumor has it this show gives better gay than “The L Word!”

"Psycho Beach Party"Psycho_beach_party2

9:00 p.m. ET - LOGO

I've been saving this one for a rainy day - it's a good one. (I think...I was pretty damn bombed when I watched it so it's all kinda fuzzy in my head.) This is the film adaptation of Charles Busch's play about a gang of teen surfers in the 1950's. (It's spoofalicious!) The plot focuses on a tomboy (Lauren Ambrose) who wants to surf in a community where there's a serial killer on the loose. Charles Busch plays Captain Monica Stark and yes, he's delicious too!

That's all I got today kids, why not go out and drink yourself silly? It *is* the most wonderful time of the year, after all...

The Telly Nelly's LGBT TV Picks for Thursday, December 14

Hola Thursday! What's shakin'?

The Golden Globe nominations? Big freakin' deal...The Golden Globes are for posers! As usual, I've not seen any of the films nominated...I'm sorry, they're just terribly boring romances and dramas. Why not just watch the freakin' news? It's free at least.

And *no* surprises on the TV n0minations front either...blah blah "Lost"...blah blah "Grey's Anatomy" blah. But again, I don't care. The Golden Globes are kids stuff people - the real TV awards are The Emmys! (Though frankly it would be nice to see Mary-Louise Parker win *something* for her work in "Weeds".)

What's on The Telly Tonight?

"Survivor: Cook Islands"Survivor_cook_virata_2

8:00 p.m. ET - CBS

Things promise to get juicy now that there are so few contestants left in the running for the big "Survivor" million so anyone could go tonight. (Anyone except Yul, naturally - he's got the immunity.) I'm thinking it's about damn time the other peeps went gunning for Ozzie but first they've got to get rid of Adam. (I still can't believe they got rid of Jonathan before Adam...dumb!) Adam and Yul...yum. My favorite is still Sundra...she's been my favorite from the get-go. And no, I have *no* idea why...I just like her. Tonight: Jenny hits her head. Ha ha! Gay Brad is obviously still on the Jury - you'll actually get to see him speak on Sunday's "Survivor: Cook Islands" finale - personally, I stop watching once they leave the island. I really could care less about who gets the cash, I just like to see 'em all starve.Aiken_clay_breast

"The Clay Aiken Christmas Special"

9:00 p.m. ET - Bravo

Making the yuletide gay since 2004. So very, very gay.

"Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Duel"

10:00 p.m. ET - MTV

It's the sixth male elimination night so it's possible one of the hunky lads could be going home. But gosh darn it, I hope it's Big Easy. I like the guy and all, but really want to see more of Brad, Evan and Wes. (In speedos!) Gay Aneesa is still in the contest and is safe for at least another week.

"Pee-wee's Playhouse Christmas Special"Pee_wee_christmas_special

10:30 p.m. ET - Cartoon Network

About friggin' time this special aired on TV again - it's been 18 years. But here's a question for you - were Paul Reuben's "crimes" so damn horrible that this has to be shown during the Adult Swim block of Cartoon Network? F*cking TV executives...grow some balls for the holidays people...sheesh. This is probably the BEST live action holiday special EVER. Yes, ever. (No, those old Bing Crosby holiday specials don't count as they're totally lame. Yes, even the one with David Bowie.) Charo, Grace Jones, Cher, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Joan Rivers, Oprah, Whoopie Goldberg, Magic Johnson, Frankie and Annette, Little Richard, k.d. lang...oh, I could go on, but why gild the lily? This special is AMAZING from the big musical number at the beginning to the warm and fuzzy holiday ending. Perfectly appropriate for everyone, you should watch and then rush out to buy the DVD.

The Telly Nelly's LGBT TV Picks for Wednesday, December 12

What's on The Telly Tonight?

"Next Top Model: British Invasion"

8:00 p.m. ET - CW

Even thought the regular "Top Model" season ended last week (huzzah for CariDee), there's still *fresh* model tonight - but it's the British version. In fact, it's the entire first season of "Britain's Next Top Model" crammed into one hour - however will they do it? Next week they'll cram all of season two into an hour and I can only hope it's as entertaining as the American version. (Though without Ms. J. Alexander, how could that be possible?) It's quite possible one of the models will be lesbian and nearly guaranteed that some of the helper monkeys will be gay.

"One Punk Under God"Bakker_jay - Series Premiere

9:00 p.m. ET - Sundance

It might not be gay, but color me fascinated! This six-part miniseries features Jay Bakker, the only son of TV evangelists Jim Bakker and Tammy Faye Messner, and yes...he's got issues. Veteran of a troubled adolescence, the tattooed and pierced Jay now preaches about godly matters and unconditional love to an alternative non-denominational congregation in Atlanta. (They meet in a bar - how cool is that?) In this episode, Jay visits Heritage USA, his father's now-defunct Christian theme park. Spooooooooooooooky! You never know when gay might pop up, he's kinda loose like that.

"The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency: Christmas With the Dickinsons"

10:00 p.m. ET - Oxygen

Oh yeah baby - when they shot "The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency" they filmed an extra episode for the holidays, and this is it! Tonight Janice throws a very swanky holiday party and performs her own, special version of "The 12 Days of Christmas." (Yes, you can start grimacing now.) I watch for the models, or should I say the flesh of those models - and hopefully tonight I won't be disappointed as some of Janice's male models audition for the role of "hunky Santa" at the Beverly Hills Mall. Fun indeed!

"Top Chef"Top_chef_sam

10:00 p.m. ET - Bravo

The product placement continues - this time Baileys Irish liquor is featured, just in time for the holidays. (Shocking!) In keeping with the theme, the chefs need to create food that can be paired with the creamy booze and I bet you the winner's drink/appetizer will be featured in some magazine, web site or product label. Just you wait, it'll happen. While there's no more gay talent left in the running for "Top Chef," old habits die hard and I just can't leave it off my weekly TV line-up.

"Real World: Denver"

10:00 p.m. ET - MTV

When gay frat boy Davis decides to host a ski adventure in Denver, only two of the house mates show up. (Ha!)

December 12, 2006

The Telly Nelly's LGBT TV Picks 12.12.06

Oh dear...I've been literally ransacked by germs today. That's right kids, The Telly Nelly's got a raging case of the sniffles.

So do forgive if I'm not as plucky as usual today. Though I suppose I could go overboard on the NyQuil and we could see what happens...

But of course last time that happened, I ruined a perfectly good shag toilet seat cover. (Perfectly good being quite subjective, mind you. I rather like to think I was doing them a favor!)

What's on The Telly Tonight?

"The Grinch Who Stole Christmas: 40th Anniversary Special"Grinch_max

8:00 p.m. ET - ABC

Possibly the best animated holiday special ever in my mind (god love you Chuck Jones), this is a very special showing as they'll be airing never before seen footage from a 'making of' documentary. (That means interview clips featuring Dr. Seuss himself, director Chuck Jones and the voice of the narrator, Boris Karloff. Good family fun. Oh, and by the by, Max - the Grinch's dog - is a total Mary.

"Dream Girls: First Look"

8:00 p.m. ET - HBO

Just like it sounds kids - if you're a fan of musical theater (or is that musical film?) you might want to give this a go to get your fix before the Christmas Day release of this show-stopper.

"Family Television Awards"

9:00 p.m. ET - CW

Don't expect "The L Word" to win anything tonight...it's not *that* kind of family. Perhaps 50 years from now, perhaps? So why tune in at all? If you're an "Ugly Betty" fan, America Ferrera will be presenting and you never know if Michael Urie (Marc, the gay assistant) will be along to play. Oh...there's a tribute to Steve Irwin too. *sniff*

"Big Day"

9:00 p.m. ET - ABC

From what I can tell, there will be no Leslie Odom Jr., who plays Freddy the gay groomsman. You can get your Leslie fix next week when the boys hit a strip club after picking up their tuxes. (Hold back the enthusiasm kids, you've got a whole week.)

"Help Me Help You"

9:30 p.m. ET - ABC

While other subplots will be in the limelight tonight, Jonathan (the closeted gay who thinks he's a metrosexual) invites the group to a popular yogurt shop in order to bond on his birthday. You know, I've never watched this show...I just refuse to watch Ted Danson - he creeps me out! (It's totally the hair.)

"Barbara Walters: 10 Most Fascinating People of 2006"

10:00 p.m. ET - ABC

I think Babs needs to get her wiring checked - do these folk look fascinating *at all* to you? I mean, I guess I can understand Vogue Editor in Chief Anna Wintour (what with the movie and all) but John Ramsey, televangelist Joel Osteen, and Steve Irwin's widow, Terri Irwin? They wouldn't make my top 200! Oh Barbara...you're lucky the homos love you, though honestly I don't know why.

"Nip/Tuck" - Season FinaleMaffia_roma_1

10:00 p.m. ET - FX

Yeah, I've heard the rumors too...someone dies in tonight's episode. Someone very close to Christian and Sean. The obvious would be Julia, as she won't be back for another season, but you never know - they could give anyone the heave-ho. (And I wouldn't really mind.) As another season of "Nip/Tuck" ends, all I can say is that I tried to watch, really I did. But my willingness to except an entire show full of shallow, hollow characters does seem to have its limits after all. As always, Roma Maffia plays lesbian anesthesiologist Liz Cruz.

"Campus Ladies"

11:00 p.m. ET - Oxygen

Bring out the Penny Marshall (and the Beverly D'Angelo), who tonight play tuition officers unwilling to give Barri a break when her school funding gets cut by her ex-husband. But how to pay for much-needed schooling? Install a Webcam in your dorm room of course - but don't tell your roommates, that'd be cheating! Gay themes often pop up in this rather silly but enjoyable scholastic treat so you might as well watch if you're up this late. (Do it for Penny!)

More from Mark Angelo Cummings

Cummings_mark_angelo_1Hello darlings, nice to see you again! How *have* you been? Really? Oh dear...you should have that checked.

Anyhoo...

You may remember a few weeks back I wrote about a FTM transgender individual, Mark Angelo Cummings, who was appearing on "The Montel Williams Show" to discuss his new book, "The Mirror Makes No Sense" and talk about gender issues.

I understand many of you were fascinated by the show (and Mark naturally - who could blame you?) so when he sent me this link to his new YouTube rant, I just couldn't resist but post it! He's promised to add music, but I think it just sparkles as it is now...no need to embellish!

Rant away Mark, rant away!

The Telly Nelly's LGBT TV Picks for Monday, December 11

It's a very gay day on the telly today - if you too are struggling with too many options for your Tivo tonight ("The Lost Room", "Wedding Wars" and "Year Without A Santa Claus" are all on at 9:00 p.m. ET) keep in mind A&E will be re-airing "Wedding Wars" throughout the week so you can always watch it later tonight (midnight), tomorrow or over the weekend. (No rush, I'm sure.)

What's on The Telly Tonight?Wedding_wars_1_1

"The Megan Mullally Show"

Syndicated - check your local listings

John Stamos stops by to discuss his work as a gay party planner in A&E's "Wedding Wars" - see my post below for details, dearie. Cris Judd (J-Lo's ex - one of 'em) from "Dirty Dancing" the reality show will be stopping by too. How disappointed was I to learn my local cable provider doesn't carry the WE network, so I can't watch the toe-tappin' treat? Ugh! Artem, I miss you!!!

"Dr. Keith Ablow"

Syndicated - check your local listings

Take *that* organized religion! Ted Haggard was a respected husband, father and evangelist pastor who allegedly paid Mike Jones, a male prostitute, for sex and assistance with his crystal-meth addiction for years and years and years. (Shocking! Who would *ever* think an evangelist would live a secret life...duh!) Anyhoo, in this chatty show, Dr. Keith talks to Mike Jones about his relationship with the ex-pastor, and also sits down with other men whose sexual exploits have torn their families apart. Will O.J. be there?

"How I Met Your Mother"

8:00 p.m. ET - ABC

Not necessarily gay, but Neil Patrick Harris plays Barney. Just thought you might care. (I don't.)

"The Wizard of Oz"

8:00 p.m. ET - TNT

I don't know why it's a holiday classic, but apparently it is...watch if you'd like. (It's more of a Thanksgiving thing for me.)

"The Class"

8:30 p.m. ET - ABC

It won't be too gay tonight as most of the action centers around Nicole after Yonk gives her a stripper-pole for their first anniversary. Yeah...she really strikes me as the type. (How stupid is *that* plot?) I'm watching to watch the bitchy Kat action - her new neighbor is a former classmate she doesn't like, but the rest of the gang just eats her up! Sean Maguire plays gay classmate Kyle.

“Wedding Wars”

9:00 p.m. ET — A&E

John Stamos (“ER”) plays a gay party planner in this same-sex wedding comedy that takes place in the great state of Maine! Stamos plays Shel, who agrees to organize the wedding of his straight brother Ben (Eric Dane “ER”) and the Governor of Maine's daughter.  After Shel finds out that Ben is behind the governor's speech against gay marriage, he decides to go on strike for equal rights and zany hilarity ensues. While Shel's strike picks up nationwide steam, the wedding is left in the hands of a tacky planner and overall, in question. While politics play a big part in this movie, keep in mind that it’s meant to be lighthearted comedy fare, not a political platform for change. But don’t let that take the wind out of your sails dears — Stamos does have a big, gay kiss after all! And if that converts one “Full House” homophobe into a homophile, he’s done his job. (Unlike that damn Bob Saget — what’s he done for us lately?)

“Year Without A Santa Claus”Heatmiser_year_without_santa_2

9:00 p.m. ET — NBC

It’s a shame that Mr. Stamos had to go up against this hard-hitting Christmas special, especially since it’s filled with abominable-sized talent including Delta Burke, Harvey Fierstein, Michael McKean, Carson Kressley and a personal favorite, Carol Kane. This made-for-TV adaptation of the Rankin-Bass animated classic of the same name demonstrates that even Santa can hold a grudge when he doesn’t get his way. When Santa Claus (John Goodman) becomes convinced that no one believes in him any more, he decides to take the year off. But Mrs. Claus (Delta Burke) needs her space and sends top elves Jingle and Jangle on an adventure to find proof that the spirit of Christmas is still alive and get Santa out of the house! Sounds easy, but the elves must contend with elemental enemies Heatmiser (Harvey Fierstein) and Snowmiser (Michael McKean), the two feuding sons of Mother Nature (Carol Kane). How I love the Carol Kane! Carson Kressley's role is small but fun - he plays Santa's gay elf stylist. Love the pointy ears, Carson...they're fabulous! (Unlike Dr. Laura Schlessinger, who also makes a cameo...hopefully she gets coal in her stocking.)

"The Lost Room" - Three-part miniseries

9:00 p.m. ET - Sci Fi Network

If there is indeed a mysterious hotel room full of talismans and other supernatural gewgaws, I bet it's in Vegas...not this dusty little town. While there's not really any gay, the cast does include Margaret Cho, so it certainly has some gay appeal.

"10 Items or Less"

11:00 p.m. ET - TBS

Who knew grocery stores could be so...unappealing? Tonight, Leslie tries to get Todd a job at the Super Value Mart when he is forced to cut an employee. Richard (Christopher Liam Moore) is an openly gay cashier who dreams of becoming a professional ice dancer even though he's older than Scott Hamilton. (But a boi can dream!)

December 08, 2006

Rosie O Ain't Goin' Nowhere Toots!

Odonnell_rosie Oh please! You'd have to pry her cold, dead hands off the set before she'd leave - this is one *sweet* gig for Rosie! Not only does she gets to connect with the daytime audience again (her biggest fans), as an added bonus she gets to talk about whatever the hell is on her mind. (Now *that* my dears is a media-lesbian's paradise...)

It's a match made in heaven! Why the heck would she leave...unless someone *made* her leave, of course. And with ratings up...what, 15 points since last year - it looks like that won't be happening anytime soon.

Good for you honey...you stay until you've gotten every last drop of fame you can!

DeathWatch: Mid-Season Addition

You could win an iPod on BrilliantButCancelled.com if you're lucky and have a little TV clairvoyance...personally I have it out for Anne Heche but she seems to be golden for now.

*Drat*

"The Class" has odds of 6:1, just slightly behind Ted Danson's "Help Me Help You." My pick? Well now, that would be cheating!

(But I certainly didn't pick "The Class," I'll say that much.)

OutzoneTV.com's "Sexiest Gay Poll 2007" Launches Today!

Mr_sulu_1Oh look kids - another new poll just in time for the New Year - and it's VERY gay! Please do go to www.outzonetv.com and vote for your favorite gay and gay-loving celebrities...it's a fabulous way to blow an hour or so of your ever-so-valuable work time! Oh right...like you're above that.

But gosh...the choices are tough! How can I choose anyone over Melissa E? Obviously I think Jake Shears deserves some credit but that Melissa...she's a Goddess! (And just why aren't George Takei or T.R. Knight on this list?????)

Without further ado, here's the scoop, direct from Bravo (so any typeos aren't mine!):

LANCE, ELLEN, FACE OFF IN OUTZONETV.COM'S FIRST EVER SEXIEST GAY 2007 POLL

BRAVO’S “MANHUNT” RETURNS IN CONJUNCTION WITH ONLINE POLL TO LAUNCH ON OUTZONETV.COM ON FRIDAY, DECEMBER 8, 2006

NEW YORK – December 5, 2006 – Bravo’s OUTzoneTV.com, the first-ever broadband channel specifically targeted to the gay and lesbian online community, will bring users, readers, and the LGBT community a new online poll to determine “OUTzoneTV.com’s Sexiest 2007.”  The nominees include Lance Bass, Ellen DeGeneres, Neil Patrick Harris, and Tim Gunn, among others.  Voting kicks off on Friday, December 8, and runs through Thursday, December 28, with the winners announced on OUTzoneTV.com and in In Touch magazine on stands on Friday, January 5.  The OUTzoneTV.com poll will coincide with the launch of Bravo’s “Manhunt” on the site.  The announcement was made today by Jason Klarman, Senior Vice President, Marketing & Brand Strategy, Bravo.

"It has been a big year for gay celebrities, and we thought what better way to celebrate than by honoring the sexiest of them,” said Klarman.

Speaking of sexy, Bravo’s “Manhunt: The Search for America's Most Gorgeous Male Model,” which first premiered on Bravo in 2004, will return on OUTzoneTV.com in conjunction with “OUTzoneTV.com’s Sexiest 2007” poll on Friday, December 8.  The eight-episode one-hour series will be rolled out with one exclusive online premiere each week, surrounded by photos, interviews, Q & A’s and blogs so fans can catch up on what their favorite contestants have been doing since shooting ended.  “Manhunt” has been an ongoing favorite for Bravo online visitors – first on Bravotv.com, and then, since June 2006, on OUTzoneTV.com.  Longtime fans and new devotees who have not been able to view the original series online will now be able to enjoy the experience.

HOW THE POLL WORKS:

Three poll categories, “Sexiest Gay Celebrity,” “Sexiest Gay-Friendly Celebrity,” and “Sexiest Gay of the Year,” each include 12 nominees.  The editors at OUTzoneTV.com hand-selected the 12 sexy celebrities in the first two categories after hours of discussion, and by focusing on those stars that are the sexiest in the most open way.  Their sexiness run the gamut from glam, butch, TV-camera-ready, grungy-poetic, musical.  Voting is open to all readers of OUTzoneTV.com, and is based on a 1-5 rating scale.

AMERICA’S SEXIEST GAY CELEBRITY:

In recent months, high-profile gays have been slipping out of the closet and into the spotlight so smoothly, including: ‘N Sync’s Lance Bass, “Grey’s Anatomy’s” T.R. Knight, and “How I Met Your Mother’s” Neil Patrick Harris.  For the first time, America has the opportunity to recognize their top pick:

· Lance Bass - The man who melted millions of tween hearts as a crooner for ‘N Sync incinerated the closet door with one phone call.  In July he came out smiling on the cover of People magazine: I’m gay and it’s no big deal.  Oh, but Lance is a great, big deal. We love him and his boyfriend, Reichen, another nominee.

· Melissa Etheridge - She survived breast cancer, headlined a hugely successful tour, and celebrated the birth of twins with partner Tammy Lynn Michaels.

· Tim Gunn - With his immense vocabulary and heart of gold amid the Project Runway phenomenon, Gunn won fan and competitor affection alike.

· Pedro Almodovar - The Oscar buzz surrounding his new film, Volver, is deafening. Best Foreign Language Film and Best Original Screenplay nods are practically guaranteed.

· Jake Shears - Front-stud of the Scissor Sisters, whose new record, “Ta-Dah,” and its first single, “I Don’t Feel Like Dancing,” debuted at the top (#1) on the UK pop charts.

· John Cameron Mitchell - From Cannes to Columbia, MO, Mitchell rocked the indie film world with his sexually explicit, proudly queer, and surprisingly touching follow-up film to Hedwig, the gritty but sweet Shortbus.

·  Nate Berkus - Oprah’s in-house decorator continued to rule the design roost on Oprah’s chatfest.  He also scored the cover of “O at Home.”

· Reichen Lehmkuhl - The ex-Air Force captain and “The Amazing Race” winner published his memoir this year and helped shepherd boyfriend Lance Bass out of the closet.

· Ellen DeGeneres - She won a third daytime Emmy Award for her chatfest, scored a hot new girlfriend (see #11) and was named the second woman (and first lesbian…) to host the Academy Awards.

· Neil Patrick Harris - Riding high on the success of his sitcom “How I Met Your Mother,” Doogie Howser cleared the air once and for all by coming out of the closet.

· Portia de Rossi - Just so damn beautiful and nice, Ms. de Rossi became the new girlfriend to megastar Ellen.  Heaven knows where the “Ally McBeal” and “Arrested Development” star will show up next.

·  Rufus Wainwright  - The singer-songwriter reached a new highpoint in his career with a sold-out, and critically acclaimed, reenactment of Judy Garland’s last concert at Carnegie Hall. Then for kicks he became the spokesmodel for avant-garde fashion designers Victor+Rolf.

AMERICA’S SEXIEST GAY-FRIENDLY CELEBRITY:

Homophobia is OUT in Hollywood, and accepting and celebrating gay men and lesbians is IN.  And the nominees are:

·  Jake Gyllenhaal - How do you follow the success of Brokeback Mountain? If you’re Jake, you take the year off and enjoy the accolades with quiet humility.  He showed true class by not commenting on jokes about his friendship with Matthew McConaughey and Lance Armstrong.

· Meryl Streep - She slipped into a pair of Christian Laboutin spike heels and ran away with the summer’s surprise blockbuster, The Devil Wears Prada.  Then in her downtime she did a serious play, “Mother Courage,” adapted by gay playwright Tony Kushner.

· Kathy Griffin - She scored in 2006 with second season of “My Life on the D-List,” which was not only popular with the folks at home but garnered the comedienne a coveted Emmy nomination.  Oh, and she keeps touring nationwide.  Go Kathy!

· Julian McMahon - The star of “Nip/Tuck” became a gay icon this year for his hyper-sexuality.  He lusts after his business partner and frenemy (Dylan Walsh) almost as much as the many women in his life.  Singlehandedly, McMahahon pushed TV ever closer to the edge of the gay/straight cliff.

· Justin Timberlake - The boy-bander with a heart brought “SexyBack” in so many ways including menswear.  He launched of an edgy, wearable, and very cool new clothing line “William Rast.”

· Amy Sedaris - The comedian -- and sister of hilarious gay author David Sedaris -- saw her film Strangers With Candy hit the big screens.  Then wrapped up the year with a surprise bestselling book, “I Like You: Hospitality Under The Influence.”

· Beyonce Knowles - She’s was already a pop star, fashion designer, and arm-candy for hip-hop’s “hova.”  Now Ms. Knowles’ is destined for movie stardom with the release of Dreamgirls, the movie.

· Johnny Knoxville - The Jackass-impresario returned with a sequel to his signature guy-on-guy hijinks that was funnier than the first.  He and his Jackass crew always play fair with tongues firmly in cheek, butt cheeks showing, and their downright gayness firmly exposed.

· Brangelina - While the power-couple continue a high-wattage fight against poverty, they joined forces with gays to fight for marriage equality. The couple said they won’t take their own vows until gays can get married, too.

· Hugh Jackman - Wolverine followed his burst on the blockbuster scene with a year on Broadway singing and dancing his way to a Tony Award as Liza Minelli’s gay husband.  This year, he starred in no less than six movies, including The Fountain, Woody Allen’s Scoop and the animated blockbuster Happy Feet.  Talk about versatile.

· Parker Posey - After starring in the charming gay flick Adam & Steve, Ms. Posey joined forces with the man who first made her a star, Christopher Guest (director of Waiting for Guffman) in his new film, For Your Consideration.

· Penelope Cruz  - She’s always done her best work with gay men — and this year is no different.  Her starring role as a diva under pressure in gay director Pedro Almodovar’s critically acclaimed Volver has made Cruz is a shoe-in for an Oscar nod.

SEXIEST GAY OF THE YEAR:

While they are not technically “celebrities,” they are stars in the world of OUTzoneTV.com.  The “Sexiest Gay of the Year” is culled from “OUTzone's Gay of the Day.”  Since OUTzone launched in June of 2006, the site has generated reader-submitted photos from readers nominating themselves for “Gay of the Day.”  It's a fun, sexy, irreverent part of the site where readers send in photos of themselves along with playful descriptions explaining why they should be “OUTzone's Gay of the Day.”  For “Gay of the Year,” over “100 Gays of the Day” have been selected for inclusion in a hot list of 12 nominees.  Now, readers can choose which “Gay of the Day” they think is worthy of the title “Gay of the Year.”
